Mood/Music Monday

Fear: (noun) an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.

I was not allowed to celebrate Halloween growing up as it was considered the devil's holiday. It was an odd logic for my child mind to comprehend. 364 days a year, God was in charge of the world as I knew it, but on Halloween, the devil reigned. Where did God go on this one day, and why was Satan given exclusive control of my life?

I was kept home from school, and not allowed to leave the house unless it was to attend a church function. Dressing up in a costume was forbidden, as was trick-or-treating. I was raised to fear this one particular day, to stay inside, to close the curtains, to hide. But how is fear to be overcome when one's way of dealing with it is to succumb to its very nature?

I believe we choose what we fear. Sometimes it's a thing, or a day, or a person, or what other people think of us. Sometimes it's even ourselves. But whatever it is, it's not going to go away unless we face it head on.

I believe we choose what we fear, which is why I choose to fear nothing.
