bright eyes: in review
Just got back to K & M's after the Bright Eyes show downtown. I must say, it's the best performance I've ever seen from them. Maybe it had something to do with extensive light show and backdrops that they've never really done before. Maybe it had something to do with the excellent selection of songs they played. ["Trees Get Wheeled Away" from Noise Floor: Rarities; "Something Vague" and "The Calendar Hung Itself..." from Fevers & Mirrors; "Cartoon Blues" from Four Winds EP; "Falling Out of Love at This Volume" from A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995-1997; "Going for the Gold" from the Oh Holy Fools split EP; and of course several songs from the new The People's Key album just to name a few.] I'm not sure how many other people in the audience recognized all of the songs played, but I knew all of them [obsess much, Michelle?] and it was the best experience I've had at a concert in a freaking long time. Despite the fact that there were for some reason an abundance of drunk assholes in attendance.
In case you missed it, here are a few pics:
The set opened wtih the first track, "Firewall", and ended with the last track, "One for You, One for Me" from The People's Key, which I found quite clever. If you plan to attend tomorrow evening's performance, I suggest you arrive early. I got as close to the stage as I could and was still 10 rows or so back. Still had a great time, though. Thank God for a zoom lens...
