shy

i've been writing and writing and haven't had time for blogging or any other such luxuries. i'm 224 pages into this novel, about 54,000 words. so i'm over halfway done. which isn't bad for a couple weeks. usually i have a goal in the back of my mind of when i'd like to finish, but not with this one. it's definitely the most depressing book i've ever penned, and the last couple chapters especially have been sad. i have two different endings planned out; either one will suck. not in the sense that it will be bad writing, but in the sense that it will break my heart.

as proposed, i'm using bright eyes song titles as chapter titles. this is what i have so far:

1. The Invisible Gardner

2. A Few Minutes on Friday

3. I’ll Be Your Friend

4. True Blue

5. An Attempt to Tip the Scales

6. All of the Truth

7. The Vanishing Act

8. At the Bottom of Everything

9. Black Comedy

10. First Day of My Life

11. Happy Birthday to Me

12. Motion Sickness

13. Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh

14. If Winter Ends

15. Patient Hope in New Snow

16. Blue Christmas

17. Sunrise, Sunset

18. Devil in the Details

trying to map out a chapter based on a few words, or the concept of a song, is not necessarily as simple as it may seem. i don't recommend something like this for a first novel. but i had to go and be creative. oh well. again, the title is Shy. again, it is my saddest and thus most difficult novel so far...
